About
Overview
Beyond Self-Care is a 2½-hour online webinar exploring the psychological processes that help keep us well.
Most conversations about self-care focus on what we should do: rest more, exercise, sleep better, eat well, manage stress, spend time with people we care about. These things matter, but knowing what is good for us does not necessarily mean that we do it, sustain it, or recognise when something important has gradually fallen out of our lives.
This webinar takes a different approach. Rather than providing another list of self-care activities, we will look at the underlying processes through which people maintain their psychological well-being over time.
The webinar draws on the ideas explored in my book Beyond Self-Care: The Psychological Processes That Keep Us Well, but you do not need to have read the book to attend.
Who Is This For?
This webinar is designed for anyone interested in understanding their own well-being more clearly. No background in psychology is required.
It may be particularly useful if you find that you generally know what you “should” be doing to look after yourself, but struggle to maintain it consistently; if life has become increasingly dominated by work, responsibility, stress or routine; or if you simply want a more useful way of thinking about what keeps us psychologically well.
What You Will Gain
A different way of understanding self-care and psychological well-being.
A framework for thinking about the processes that help maintain well-being over time.
A clearer understanding of how everyday patterns, relationships and ways of responding to life can either support or gradually undermine well-being.
An opportunity to reflect on your own life and identify areas that may require greater attention.
What This Is Not
This is not therapy, a therapy group or a substitute for individual psychological treatment.
It is not a motivational seminar or a collection of quick self-care tips.
You will not be expected to disclose personal information or discuss private experiences with the group.
The webinar is educational and reflective, with the aim of helping you develop a more useful understanding of your own well-being.
